HARDWARE RETAILING | April 2017 70 What's New What to Do Two programs from the National Hardware Show and NRHA are new this year, and both are dedicated to inspiring independent home improvement retailers to consider how they can invest in their businesses and be leaders in their communities and the industry. The National Hardware Show wants to know: What you would do with an extra $100,000 for your business? Reimagine Retail is a contest sponsored by the National Hardware Show that will award one lucky retailer the grand prize of $100,000 to put toward a capital improvement project in their store. Attend this presentation to hear the innovative ideas independent retailers have to improve their operations. Mark your calendar for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, and prepare your applause and confetti. That's when the winner of the Reimagine Retail program will be announced on the NRHA Village Stage. Every year, NRHA and Hardware Retailing honor the industry's leaders in the Top Guns program. For a new spin on this year's program, the association and the magazine will be recognizing the independent home improvement industry's Young Guns. The Young Guns honorees are next-generation retailers who are four of the most successful and innovative people in the independent home improvement industry. The Young Guns will gather for a panel discussion at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, on the NRHA Village Stage. They will talk about their success stories, their take on the current state of the industry and their visions for its future. Attend this program to learn what it takes to be named a Young Gun in today's competitive retail environment, and discover new ideas and business philosophies to take home to your store. The National Hardware Show and the NRHA All-Industry Conference combine to create an event to serve retailers from all backgrounds, affiliations and business models. Whether you prefer to spend your time methodically moving through the show floor or casually meeting other retailers, there is something for everyone. There will be thousands of exhibitors on hand— from big brands with their newest products to small startup companies with "the next big thing." Use the My Show app to keep track of all the exhibitors you want to see. The app is free once you register for the show, and it can be accessed through the free NHS mobile app. One of the biggest benefits of the show is the chance to meet and network with other retailers— on the show floor or off. Make sure to check out a happy hour event or stop by the Tailgate, Backyard & BBQ area. Along with awards ceremonies and speakers, the NRHA All-Industry Conference offers independent home improvement retailers, regardless of wholesale affiliation, the opportunity to connect with and learn from each other. A great place to make these connections happen is at the NRHA Independent Retailer Reception, which begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. If you are interested in attending this free event, please RSVP to Katie McHone-Jones at email@example.com before the show. Another way to ensure you connect with as many new people as possible is to make the NRHA Village a regular stop as you make your way around the show. You'll need time to rest in between vendor stops and presentations, so make the Village the place to regroup throughout the day. This time can be spent mingling with other retailers or learning about NRHA. NEW!
