HARDWARE RETAILING | May 2017 10 Independent Thinking T he May issue of Hardware Retailing magazine is the "National Hardware Show ® Issue." The National Hardware Show and the NRHA All-Industry Conference, which is held in conjunction with the show, is the largest event that welcomes every retailer, vendor and distributor that sells, or hopes to sell, home improvement products in this marketplace. If you're an independent retailer, the NRHA Village is your home at the show. Use it to meet with people, take breaks or listen to one of many speakers on tap. There are many events throughout the conference designed for independent retailers, including Top Guns, the Independent Retailer Reception and the Retailers' Choice awards. In addition, it's a place to introduce yourself to the 2017 Young Retailers of the Year, who will be honored in a ceremony prior to the opening of the conference. The National Hardware Show is the place to see the latest product trends and vendors. It's a place to rub elbows with independent retailers from every wholesale brand, as well as big-box retailers, specialty retailers and online players. You're sure to return home from the show with a wealth of new ideas and a better perspective about the future of home improvement retailing. Your Association's Industry Role Like the National Hardware Show, NRHA serves as a unifying force in the industry. Your association's mission is to help independent hardware stores, home centers and lumberyards, regardless of wholesale affiliation, become better and more profitable retailers. NRHA serves as a place where all independents and channel partners come together, voice concerns and learn from each other. NRHA's service mission is summed up in this simple phrase: Educate, Advocate, Associate. Here's how we do it. • Educate. Hardware Retailing magazine reaches about 264,000 readers every month through its print, web and e-newsletter formats, making this free monthly "how-to guide" to retail best practices one of NHRA's most visible education tools. NRHA also offers various free and paid training resources for everything from hardware and building materials to merchandising and selling skills. The NRHA Retail Leadership Institute offers the Retail Management Certification Program and the Foundations of Leadership Program, which are retail education programs. • Advocate. NRHA is the voice of independents to their channel partners and government representatives. The NRHA State of Independents Conference, held each year in December, gathers channel partners to hear the results of research with independents that explore common concerns. Independents are invited to come to the new Small Business and Government Roundtable, held June 28-29, to voice top concerns to our government leaders. • Associate. Through events like the National Hardware Show, industry roundtables and other retailer events, your association provides a place to learn and share ideas with others retailers. We invite you to get involved with NRHA in any way that will help make your business better. Get in touch and we can help you get started.
