Leadership Training Scholarships Awarded to 3 Retailers T hree home improvement retailers have been awarded scholarships to attend the Retail Leadership Institute's Retail Management Certification Program (RMCP). This comprehensive, college-level education program aims to develop leadership and management skills through classroom education and individualized business coaching. Twice a year, employees from independent hardware stores, home centers and lumberyards are invited to apply for scholarships to attend RMCP courses. Brenda Taylor Manager, Cascade Home Center Gold Beach, Oregon Taylor received the National Hardware Show ® 's RMCP Scholarship. Through RMCP, she plans to hone her leadership skills and continue her industry education. Taylor wants to inspire her employees to be knowledgeable and dedicated to the industry they serve. Travis Hellvig Operations Manager, Hartford Building Center Hartford, South Dakota Hellvig, a 2016 Young Retailer of the Year, received the NRHA Marcus Moran Jr. Scholarship. He took over his family's store after his father suffered a stroke, and he has continued to grow the business. Hellvig is also a firefighter and EMT. Matthew Carlson President, Russ' True Value Queen Creek, Arizona Carlson is also a recipient of the NRHA Marcus Moran Jr. Scholarship. He and his wife purchased Russ' True Value in 2014 from his parents, and since then, he has focused on providing exceptional customer service through transparency and ease of purchase.
