"During the event, the beekeepers association brings in observation hives, so customers can see the honeycomb," Leopold says. "They have the best interests of the pollinators in mind, and it's also a great way to educate consumers on why it's so important to buy neonic- free plants from us. When a bee goes to retrieve pollen from a plant with neonicotinoids on it, they then bring that back to the colony, which causes the entire colony to die." However, to combat that and ensure the bees have the food they need, Marin Ace also educates customers on the types of native plants that will bloom throughout the winter and help the bees.
