The Canadian Connection Hyde Group evolves from a U.S. manufacturer to a North American Consumer Products Group. en years after I.P. Hyde launched Hyde Manufac- turing in 1875, two Hyde employees migrated to Canada to start their own company. That company was A. Richard – which, like Hyde, was destined to dominate a number of pro tool categories in its own country. Fast forward to 2003, when Hyde purchased A. Richard and began a transition from U.S. manufacturer to North American Consumer Products Group. Today, HYDE ® and RICHARD comprise the Hyde Group Construction Division, and deliver impressive North American market share in high-quality tools for drywall, paint, tile, masonry, wall repair, sanding, and other categories. The group's latest success story: a robust paint applicator program created and sold extensively in Canada. That pro- gram is now available to U.S. retailers and pro suppliers. While Hyde supplies a number of international markets, Canada is essentially Hyde Group's second home. "We have a long history there," noted Hyde Group President Rob Scoble, "with a large manufacturing plant in Quebec province, an excellent reputation for supply chain management, and substantial retail placements based on RICHARD as Canada's number one pro brand in its categories. Hyde's evolution into a North American supplier was both timely and fortuitous, Scoble notes. "In the last few years, a large number of our U.S. customers have expanded into Canada. Our supplier capacity is now at a premium for helping major customers grow that market." Perhaps most important is the rich contribution both Hyde Group companies make to category management. "We have similar expertise, but we also each have special - ties." says Corey Talbot, Vice President of Sales and Product Development for the Construction Division. "Richard, for example, is very strong in high-end paint applicators, tile tools and sanding. Together we bring significant innovation to many categories." Hyde Group packaging has been North American-com - pliant for nearly a decade, he added, using a three-language format that meets U.S. and Canadian standards. "We're a very experienced partner for companies doing business beyond the border."
