Checkouts CUSTOMER RELATIONS Rooting Up Good Times at Buchheit I t's not uncommon to hear of a store having a dog or cat that serves as its mascot. But what about a pig? That's exactly what customers at Buchheit can find whenever they walk into any of the store's eight locations in Illinois or Missouri. As well as being a full-service home center, Buchheit carries a complete line of farm products, and even farm animals, so the pet pig fits in well with all the store has to offer. Plus, it's a great talking point among the business' youngest customers. Kids love to come in and visit with the pigs and even take them for short walks (with an employee's help, of course). This interaction brings their parents, who might have come in to the store for other items, back to the farm, pet and ranch area of the store. It also helps store staff form a relationship with the kids at a young age—a relationship those kids will remember as they grow up and shop for home improvement products of their own. Pigs and other farm animals are common sights at Buchheit stores. Each location has its own pig that serves as a store mascot.
