I n March, business owners, manufacturers and industry experts converged in Cologne, Germany, for the 2018 EISENWARENMESSE International Hardware Fair. Attendees got a global glimpse at the trends and technology shaping the future of the industry. NRHA sent representatives to the International Hardware Fair to meet with industry experts and keep North American retailers current with the latest products and technological advances that could set their operations apart. NRHA chairman of the board Megan Menzer says this was her first trip to the event, but its scope—nearly 15.5 million square feet of event space featuring products from 2,700 manufacturers—impressed her. "My first impression was that I couldn't believe the size of the event. There are so many booths and hands-on demos. It is clear that the exhibitors really make an investment in their booths and presence at the show," Menzer says. Spanning four days, this year's event focused on technological opportunities and how retailers can incorporate these advances into their day-to-day operations. Events included a special presentation on 3D printing capabilities, informative keynote addresses at the dSummit, and the presentation of the EISEN Award for product innovation.
