HARDWARE RETAILING | May 2018 226 226 HARDWARE RETAILING | May 2018 Jump On Board With Creative Displays Unique objects not often seen in a store is another way to grab a customer's attention. At Massey's Professional Outfitters in New Orleans, they used a truck tailgate to display items. You could do something similar in your business by thinking of an unusual item that sparks a conversation with customers. Create a Welcoming Entrance Having a well-lit and inviting entrance to your business can make a big impression on your customers and potential customers. Lighting One of the easiest ways to make a business more inviting is by incorporating more lighting throughout the store. At Angelo Brocato's Original Italian Ice Cream Parlor in New Orleans, lighting goes beyond illuminating the space; it creates an old-school look and feel. Last Word S hopping is more than just buying items from a list—it's also about exploring the store before you. My name is Renee Changnon and I'm the profiles editor for Hardware Retailing. Whether I'm visiting a hardware store for a photo shoot or I'm off the job, design and merchandising ideas grab my attention at every turn. In March, I joined Independent We Stand for its annual road trip as a representative for the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA). It was my third time tagging along for the trip, and once again, I had unique takeaways from the journey, which had us travel 1,400 miles from Minneapolis to New Orleans. Check out these photos to see the ideas that stood out to me most on the trip. Perhaps you might get an idea that you can bring into your retail operation. For more on the trip, go to Page 196.
